On Saturday, March 20th, the servant knelt before her Master, to thank Him for loving her and dying on the cross. Dorothy C. Ferris, 91, was born on May 27, 1929 in Huntington, WV to the late Forrest and Effie Young Carmack. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Ferris; brother and sister-in-law, Charlie and Flo Carmack; nephew, Mike Carmack. Surviving are two nieces, Terry and Mike Hettinger and their children and grandchildren, Chris (Allison) Hettinger, Kate, Jack and Christian; Michael Hettinger; Rachel (Kyle) Nash and Cooper; Judy and Bob Carty and their children and grandchildren, Kelly (Jerry) Philips, Bryce, Payton and Paige; Elizabeth Carty; Mary Helen Horn and Dean Jordan, Brody and Hannah; Alyson (Greg) Bennett and Miles; the Ferris extended family, Ruth and Jim Jones family, and devoted friend, Debbie Branham, who ministered to her. Dorothy lived in Chesapeake, Ohio for most of her life and was a member of Pomaria Missionary Baptist Church where she served as mentor to the youth. She later moved to Huntington, WV and became a part of the body of Lewis Memorial Baptist Church. She retired from Special Metals and then became a full time missionary serving in Uganda, Africa and Guyana, South America. She travelled extensively and made many friends across the world who became her family and who lovingly referred to her as "Momma Dorothy." The lives she touched can only be counted in Heaven. Though we mourn, we know she finished her course well. Our gratitude is extended to the aides and nurses at Woodlands who loved her. Funeral services will be held at Schneider-Hall Funeral Home, Chesapeake, Ohio, with Dr. David Lemming and Pastor Mitch Webb officiating on Saturday, March 27, at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. The committal will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens, South Point, OH with Pastor Rob Jones. Serving as pallbearers will be Rick Jones, A.J. (Andy) Jones, Seth Jones, Caleb Jones, Jesse Foster, Dustin Jones and Tyler Foster.
